CVISION Technologies Releases CVista
PdfCompressor 2.1

Industry's first imaging compression suite now optimized for complex workflows and runs up to 30% faster!

New York, NY - April 7, 2003 - CVISION Technologies, developers of intelligent digital media solutions that simplify and enhance the usability of documents, today announced CVista PdfCompressor Release 2.1.

PdfCompressor is the first product to support the JBIG2 compression standard within the PDF file format. This technology allows users to create PDF documents up to 10x smaller than conventional PDFs, yet viewable in Adobe Acrobat Reader and compatible with all PDF applications. These CVISION-produced PDFs allow users to transmit ten pages in the time it normally takes to transfer a single page or deliver 10 CDs of data on a single CD. Tests prove the compressed PDFs have no perceptual loss of image clarity, even when magnified.

Among the important new features in the 2.1 Release of PdfCompressor are:

  • Watched folder support for automated workflow implementations
  • Half-toning module for optimal compression of scanned newspapers, magazines, & journals
  • Speed optimizations allowing PdfCompressor to run up to 30% faster and compress up to 10,000 images/hour
  • Resolution-based resampling of TIFF and PDF files to fixed dpi
  • Faster print spooling using PdfCompressor's Auto-MMR support
  • Improved OCR and bounding box accuracy of rotated and landscaped TIFFs and PDFs

"With our watched folder capability, scanning facilities can now seamlessly integrate PdfCompressor into their workflows," says Steve Talmud, VP of Sales for CVISION. "Clients now identify a network folder for PdfCompressor to monitor. As soon as their captured images are created PdfCompressor will automatically analyze, compress and OCR their images. Our GUI allows PdfCompressor to integrate into complex workflows out-of-the-box without the need for programming resources. And with our dramatic compression speeds and other new optimizations, PdfCompressor is suitable for even the most demanding imaging applications."

CVISION Technologies has released a white paper which describes this technology in detail. A side-by-side comparison of industry-standard TIFF G4, TIFF G4-encoded PDF, and JBIG2-encoded PDF formats is available on the CVISION website.
The CVista product suite also allows clients the option to compress to CVISION's proprietary CIF format. The CIF format provides additional benefits, including compression of up to 20X on captured images, text-searchable images with no increase in file size, annotation, and redaction.
