Compress PDFs

It is easy to compress PDFs (portable document format files) if you have the right software. In order to compress PDFs, you first need PDF compression software. There are many software products that allow you to compress PDFs ranging from free, internet-based software to powerful proprietary software. Users should choose the level of software they use to compress PDFs based on their needs.

Software to Compress PDFs

Software used to compress PDFs works by modifying they the way the data that makes up PDF files so that it takes up less space. There are two main ways for PDF compression software to compress PDFs. The first, lossy compression, works by discarding some "inessential" data; this results in some quality loss. The other, lossless compression, retains full image fidelity. For example, lossy compression would compress the number 118.55555555 to 118, whereas lossless compression could compress it to 118.[8]5.
