Compression Technology

JBIG2 & JPEG 2000 Compliant Standards Enhance PDF Files

In order to provide the highest standard in color and bitonal compression, CVISION built PdfCompressor 3.0 to be fully compliant with the ISO JBIG2 and JPEG 2000 standards for color and bitonal compression. An imaging process involving compression requires the highest standards to maintain image quality. With PdfCompressor, your compressed images are transformed to 100% standard Adobe Reader compliant PDF files. No proprietary software or viewer of any kind is required to view, manipulate, or print your files.

ISO Standards

PdfCompressor 3.0 offers a compression mode that is fully compliant with the ISO JBIG2 standard for scanned bitonal image documents. PdfCompressor 3.0 also offers a JPX color compression mode fully compliant with the ISO JPEG 2000 standard for scanned color image documents.

Document Intelligence

CVISION image-processing technology also allows "intelligence" to be seamlessly added into a scanned document: live OCR text can be easily embedded into the file at virtually no extra byte cost. The CVISION intelligent document allows the user to search for words and see the search results as highlighted portions of the bitmap image.

High Fidelity, Low Storage Cost

Although higher-resolution images have superior fidelity and lower OCR mismatch rates, a major problem with scanning at a higher dpi is the increased cost of storage/transmission space/time. CVISION's model-based compression amortizes the bitmap cost and allows a client to store super high-resolution images with no appreciable increase in file size. Additionally, CVISION technology also allows the client to perform image processing operations on the file as it is processed, including resampling, deskewing, and despeckling.

Processing Characteristics

PdfCompressor processing time for a typical TIFF image is under 0.35 seconds per page (Pentium 3/866 MHz tests). Intelligent OCR-enabled compression takes roughly 2 seconds per page.
