PDF file users are aware how cumbersome it is to send a large PDF file to its destination. If quality is not an issue why not decrease PDF file size before sending it. A decreased PDF file is usually lightweight and contains low resolution images, less embedded fonts into the document. It is also necessary to ascertain which version of PDF is being used and which level of compression has been used.

To decrease PDF file size try using the "Save As" command because when you use "Save" command the PDF size is increased automatically. But by using "Save As" command the whole PDF is overwritten which results in a decreased PDF file size.

When a job involves PDF to be made out of scanned image, it will be a good idea to decrease the optical resolution of the scanning software. Try lowering the resolution of the image until a smaller PDF file size is achieved.

Before converting to PDF reduce the number of pixels of an image with any image software like Photoshop, Acdsee, Paint Shop Pro etc. When the PDF file is ready, compress it further by using any compression software.

Another point to be noted here is when a person lowers the size of an image it will not look superior but if a user intends to publish it online then decreasing the size of the PDF will be a good choice.

One more option available to decrease PDF file size is by using only common fonts like Times New Roman, Arial, Courier and disabling the other fonts like under "True Type Font Embedding" select the option "Don't Embed". This action will result in a decreased PDF. Please note while selecting this option to "decrease PDF', the PDF may not print properly in the absence of these fonts on the output computer.

So for decreasing PDF file size use the default option of "Embed (subset)". This command will interpret PDF Printer Driver embeds the fonts into the PDF output.
