Question: While creating PDFs using CVISION’s PdfCompressor software I noticed a file called “Thumb.db” appeared. I was wondering what this file was and how it was created? Can it be safely deleted?
Answer: PdfCompressor is designed to convert and create PDF, TIFF, and JPEG files into compressed, web-optimized and text-searchable PDF files. Thumb.db is created by windows in order to cache the thumbnails of images in that particular folder. These files can in fact be deleted safely.
If you want to disable the files from being created, you can accomplish this by opening an explorer window by clicking: Tools->Folder Options->View->and select “Do not cache thumbnails”
