OCR TIFF

Question:
Is there a way to OCR TIFF files to make them searchable? Most of our scanned documents are stored as TIFF files, and we want to be able to search them.

Answer:
Yes, you can certainly OCR TIFF files. The ability to OCR TIFFs is in pretty high demand, for exactly the reason you stated: many users have document scans saved as TIFFs. Good OCR software should be able to handle TIFF files. CVISION's Maestro Recognition Server can OCR TIFF files, and will convert them to searchable PDFs. The advantage to this is that PDF files are generally smaller than TIFF files, and are also very portable, meaning that they can be viewed on any computer regardless of its operating system.
