Question: We scan articles from newspapers and would like to upload them to our corporate ECM. Can you recommend an automated way to do that?

Answer: Typically Enterprise Content Management (ECM) requires additional information about the scanned files. Using your example, you can consider adding document name, newspaper name, author, date publish, etc. This information will help users search on these fields to get precise results. To automate the process, you can use a cover page. You scan the cover page first follow by the article. The cover page will outline your required information such as document name, newspaper name, author, etc. The cover page can be printed or it can be designed as a handwritten form. Handwritten recognition requires ICR, while printed recognition requires OCR. At the end of the recognition process, the program can generate an XML file and a searchable PDF file. Both files can be automatically uploaded to your ECM using watched folder.
