Processing TIFF files with OCR

December 23rd, 2008 by Chris

Question: I am trying to see the stats on how the backlog is going and it is very slow

We have 7 machines 24 hrs / day, we only process about 4,000 tiffs per machine, that is 28,000 a day.  That is too low.  Is it or am I thinking that way? I have a back log now of 200,000 + new entries I am holding off in another queue until I am done with these ones.

I was thinking if you can give me a license on the other machines that I used to run the software on HS_8,9,….  And you can take it off from one of the existing machines. This will double the power for us to process these files, unless you can think of we can do something else

Answer: The processing doesn’t depend on how many files it processes but how many pages. So if you are processing with OCR you should expect about 3 seconds a page per process.

Please make sure that on all your machines all your processors are fired up, and processing pages.

Compression to PDF from file formats

December 18th, 2008 by Chris

Question: I recently downloaded the CVista PDF Compressor Desktop Edition.  When I select a Word document for compression, then Run Job- nothing happens even though the pop-up box appears that says “Compressing.”

Is this software able to convert doc files? Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Answer: Thank you for contacting CVISION Technologies. PdfCompressor at this time takes the following files as input: TIFF,PDF,JPEG,BMP,GIF,PNG,TGA,WMF,PCX,ICO,PNM. All these formats are converted to PDF and in addition we can also create Word RTF files Excel and TXT file.

PdfCompressor doesn’t take “Doc” files as input, however we do have a product in development that does.

If you have any additional questions please feel free to contact us. If you would like to test out our software for compression of scanned documents, I have included a link below to re-evaluate.

September 23rd, 2008 by Chris

Question: We need a PDF compression solution. A colleague had recommended your compression product, PdfCompressor. Our organization deals with scanned images that can be either color or black & white. The scanners output are either PDF or TIFF files. Do you offer a trial of the compression product?

Answer: Yes, we do offer a trial of PdfCompressor, I have attached it below. We do accept PDFs and TIFFs as input for compression. You said you have black & white files, as well as color files. For B&W files, we can achieve compression rates of 10% the original file size, for color documents, the compression rates are as much as 1% the original size.

PDF Compress

September 16th, 2008 by Chris

Question: I need to compress my PDF files. My company deals with many PDFs that need compressing, we find the PDFs difficult to access and transmit. Can I test your “PDF Compress utility?”

Answer: Yes, we have a free 30-day evaluation of our PdfCompressor product; you can test compressing your own PDF files. Many of clients require compression for the same reason you discussed, uncompressed PDFs are slow to email and open.

Batch PDF Compression in Multi-threading mode

September 11th, 2008 by Chris

Question: Does the API support batch PDF compression? I have a folder of PDFs, I would like to process them and produce a single PDF for each one processed? I know I can loop through the folder and process one at a time but I’m not taking advantage of multi-threading. Can this be done and still be able to take advantage of the compressors multi-threading capability?

Answer: The multithreading is controlled at the command line. Then the appropriate flag is passed multithreading will kick in. The flag for multi-threading is “-mt”. Please add that flag to the command line and that should fix the problem.
