What is OCR?

November 30th, 2006 by Chris

Question: What is OCR? Could you tell me what OCR means? I see the option for OCR mentioned both when I scan documents into PDF using my scanner, and when I use your PdfCompressor.

Answer: OCR is an abbreviation for Optical Character Recognition. OCR software is designed to translate images of typewritten text, faxed, and scanned files into machine editable, text-searchable, index-able text. Our OCR engine is capable of four different modes of OCR; the different modes are based on the quality of the scanned document.

Shrink PDF

November 27th, 2006 by Chris

Question: How can I shrink my PDF documents? I am looking to reduce the size of my scanned PDF document?

Answer: Our PdfCompressor helps shrink, and convert PDF, TIFF, and JPEG files into compressed, web-optimized, and text searchable PDF files. The PdfCompressor shrinks PDF file size of scanned color PDFs up to 1/100th of the size, and shrinks scanned black & white PDFs up to 1/10th of the size. We can also reduce electronic PDFs which may require a tweaking in the setting and using the Rasterization mode opposed to the Stream mode. Please have in mind you can always submit the file to us for examining. We will return the compressed file along with the utilized settings. In addition to shrinking the file size of these PDFs, PdfCompressor is equiped with an OCR engine.

The PDF file reduction is completed while maintaining file quality; there are various types of files out there, the standard setting of PdfCompressor usually works well to compress them. However, some other files may require tweaking those setting to achieve better PDF file reduction results. PDF files and advantages

November 25th, 2006 by Chris

Question: I need files that are manageable and easy to use. I have been doing some research, and discovered that many businesses either use TIFF, JPEG, or PDF files. Which files should I use?

Answer: PDF files are readily viewable on any PC with Adobe’s free reader. PDFs allow documents to be uniformly printed and viewed. Furthermore, PDFs can be equipped with an OCR layer to make your documents text-searchable. OCR converts image documents into text searchable PDF files. Searchable files created by OCR, are far more manageable and users are more efficient.
