PdfCompressor Watermark

April 2nd, 2008 by Chris

Question: I recently downloaded the trial version of CVISION’s PdfCompressor. I noticed that when I use it to compress files, it automatically adds a line of text on each page. Is there a way to disable this option?

Answer: Thank you for your inquiry to CVISION; we appreciate you taking the time out to evaluate our software. The watermark and footer appear only in the trial version of the software. When using the “Full version” neither the footer nor the watermark will be present. To disable the watermark you must have a purchased version of PdfCompressor.

PDF Compression Settings

September 19th, 2007 by Chris

Question: I am currently testing the bulk/batch processing option within PdfCompressor. Overally, the results were good, but on closer look nearly half of the files increased in size, most increases were marginal, I am not sure why there would be any increases in size of the documents?

I was not doing OCR just simple compression of existing PDFs. Any settings I should look at? Is there a switch to say ‘if it won’t be smaller leave it alone’? Just wondering why things would get bigger.

Answer: There are various types of files out there, and the factory setting that PdfCompressor comes with usually works well on most of them. However, some other files may require tweaking those setting to achieve better results. Also, please keep in my PdfCompressor is designed for captured files; results on electronic files are less predictable, although good results can be achieved.

We can make suggestions on how to get the best results with your type of files; however, we would need to see the files first. If you would please email or post the files somewhere, and provide a link to download them, we would then be able to test these files.

The feature that you mentioned (’if it won’t be smaller leave it alone’) in your email is not available in PdfCompressor 3.1 but is available in PdfCompressor 4.0. Please note that PdfCompressor is still in Beta but is available for sale.

If anyone is interested in submitting a file for examination, and optimization, please email: support@cvisiontech.com

October 16th, 2006 by Chris

Question: I’ve downloaded your trial software and compressed a PDF. I noticed it put a watermark at the bottom of each page advertising the software and it links to your site. How do I disable that link? How do I disable that watermark? Will the full version also have this watermark?

Answer: The watermark and footer appear only in the trial version of the software. When using the “Full version” neither the footer not the watermark will be present.

Install Errors

October 11th, 2006 by Chris

Question: I just downloaded CVista PdfCompressor Professional 3.1. When I try to start up PdfCompressor, I get an error message about failing to load ‘CommonDialog’ from COMDLG32.OCX. Any ideas what is going on here?

Answer: The reason that you are getting the “failed to load common dialog from comdlg32.ocx” error is most likely because one or both particular files existed prior to our software install. To resolve this issue please follow the steps below:

1. Browse to C:\WINDOWS\system32 locate one or (you might have) both of these files “comdlg32.ocx and comdlg32.dll” and rename them (i.e. comdlg32.ocx.old and comdlg32.dll.old)
2. Uninstall our software.
3. Reinstall the software.
