Question:
Do you have a free version of your PDF compressor software? I have a few PDF files to compress and need a free PDF compressor.
Answer:
Yes, we do have a PdfCompressor free trial version. The free version of PdfCompressor has a 30-day limit, and some limitation on its features. If you only have a few PDFs to compress, it will be sufficient. There’s also a free online PDF compression tool at our website, www.cvisiontech.com, that works very well for small PDF compression jobs. I’ve attached a link to our downloads page where you can get the free trial version of PdfCompressor.

Question:
I use a web-based email service, and therefore have a fairly restrictive attachment size limit. I often need to circulate large PDF files in my office, but am unable to due to the files exceeding the attachment limit. Is reducing the size of a PDF file an effective way to solve this problem?
Answer:
The short answer is yes, reducing the size of a PDF file can generally make it small enough to fit within standard attachement limits. Of course, there are several factors involved, such as the size and content of the PDF, and the compression software used to reduce the size of the PDF file. CVISION’s PdfCompressor has a compression factor range of 5-10x for black and white PDF files and 10-100x for color. You can try reducing the size of a PDF file with the online compression tool or the free trial version of PdfCompressor to see if it solves your problem (see link to downloads page below).

Question:
Can I zip my PDF files like any other file? I need to send a few large PDF files as an email attachment; how would I go about zipping PDF files?
Answer:
Are you sure you want to be zipping PDF files? Zipping PDF files means the needing to unzip them, and isn’t exactly the most friendly way to send PDF documents. Rather than zipping PDF files, you can compress them with PDF compression software. We have an online tool and a free trial version of our PdfCompressor; there really is no need to be zipping PDF files. If you only have a few files, one or the other will do the trick at no cost to you. If you find yourself often needing smaller PDF files, you might consider the full version of PdfCompressor. If you’d like to check out the trial version, the link below will take you to our downloads page.

Question:
I have many high res scanned PDF files on my computer that are taking up far too much of my hard drive space. Please tell me there’s a way to shrink a scanned pdf file!
Answer:
There certainly is a way to shrink a scanned PDF file, or any other PDF file for that matter. PDF compression software can shrink a scanned PDF file to as small as 1/100th of its original size. CVISION’s PdfCompressor can shrink a high-resolution color PDF file to this degree, which can free up quite a bit of disk space. You can get the free trial version at the link below to try shrinking your scanned PDF files.

Question:
I’ve been using the TIFF format for all of my scanned documents, but am now realizing that this is a bad idea because I want to be able to search them. Do you have a TIFF to PDF converter, and can it make the resulting PDFs searchable?
Answer:
Searchability is one of the big advantages PDF has over TIFF, and one of the main reasons people seek out a TIFF to PDF converter. However, not all TIFF to PDF converters can make searchable PDFs. PdfCompressor includes CVISION’s accurate OCR engine, which can make your PDFs searchable. PdfCompressor can also drastically compress your PDF files so that they are optimized for transfer, viewing, and storage. There is a free trial version of our TIFF to PDF converter – PdfCompressor – that can be found on our downloads page by following the link below.

Question:
Many PDF compression oriented software companies provide free PDF compression tools and downloads. Does CVISION have any free PDF compression software?
Answer:
We have both an online free PDF compression tool on our website that is powered by our PdfCompressor software, and a free trial version of PdfCompressor. These and other free PDF compression tools are great for small-scale PDF compression, a document here or there. If this is all you have to do, free PDF compression will take care of it nicely. If you have a larger number of PDF files to compress, free PDF compression may not be the best solution as it will cost you a lot of time to process each file individually. PdfCompressor is designed for large PDF compression projects; if you’d like to try it out for free, you can click the link below to go to our downloads page.

Question:
My company has a huge number of PDF files to compress, and is looking into a PDF compression server. Will your software enable us to set up a PDF compression server?
Answer:
Yes. PdfCompressor can be run on a server, offering all of the benefits of server-based PDF compression. Having a PDF compression server allows you to fully automate the process of PDF compression using watched folders, which means that the PDF compression software on the server watches specific folders on the server or on other machines networked to it. If a document is scanned into one of these folders, or if a PDF file is placed into one of them, it will be automatically compressed by your PDF compression server. PdfCompressor can also automatically use OCR to make your compressed PDF files text-searchable, or to turn them into editable text documents. A free trial version can be downloaded by visiting CVISION’s downloads page, linked below.

Question:
Hello. I have a question regarding compressing a PDF file. I’m working on a website, and uploaded a PDF file, but when I tried to view it from my browser it took forever to load. I don’t want my site visitors to turn away in frustration, so is there a way to compress a PDF file?
Answer:
You’ve come to the right place if you need to compress a PDF file. CVISION specializes in PDF file compression software. If you just need to compress a PDF file, we have an online tool that can do it for free, or you can download a trial version of PdfCompressor (see link below). However, if you are a web developer, you are likely to need to compress more than just one PDF file. The full version of the software will let you compress a PDF file, but also compress large batches of them. If you like the trial version, you may want to consider purchasing the full version as a professional tool for your PDF compression needs.

Question:
What is the most accurate OCR software available? I’ve tried several OCR products, but none have been very accurate. I would like to use OCR software for forms processing, but if the OCR software is not accurate it’s hardly worth the effort. Obviously, I’d like to get the most accurate OCR software available.
Answer:
I’m proud to say that CVISION’s OCR engine has been tested to be the most accurate OCR software on the market. Text often missed by other OCR software is easily located by ours. Beside being the most accurate OCR software, our OCR software is also extremely fast, being able to process about five pages per second. You don’t have to take my word for it though. We have free trial versions available of all our software; I’ve attached the download page link below.

Question:
Is PDF/A the best format for long-term document archival? I am the record manager of my company, and we have been archiving for a long time using microfiche. However, we’re now looking to digitize our archives using software, and are wondering what the best way to do that is. If it is indeed PDF/A, is there software that will easily make PDF/A files?
Answer:
As I’m sure you’re aware, the PDF format is so widespread for a reason. PDF files can be opened on practically anyone’s computer with readily available free software. PDF/A is a restricted version of PDF; PDF/A software embeds all information needed to open every PDF/A in the PDF/A file itself. The Association of Records Managers and Administrators (ARMA) and the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) both recommend PDF/A for long-term archiving. Because PDF/A files contain all information needed to open them, they will be able to be opened long into the future. CVISION does have easy-to-use PDF/A software. A trial of our PDF/A software can be found at our downloads page (see link below).
