Question:
Can I get my scanner to OCR my files for me? Is there any way for it to output PDF instead of TIFF?
Answer:
The problem with files when they come out of a scanner is that they are not yet ready to work with. You’ve taken a paper document, and converted it into a digital image, but this is not yet useful, since you can’t really do anything with it. Most scanners output TIFF files. If you want your files to be in PDF format instead, you can use software to convert to PDF. Also, while your scanner itself does not OCR the file, you can use computer software to OCR once you have the file in digital form. With the right OCR solution, this is very easy. All you have to do is place the document on the scanner, and the rest of the work is done for you. You end up with a fully text-searchable file, which can even be automatically sorted according to your needs. CVISION’s Maestro Recognition Server can do this for you, making your life a lot easier. Maestro’s OCR is powerful, fast and accurate, so the scanning process is more convenient than ever.

Question:
How is open source OCR software different from regular OCR software? Where can I get it?
Answer:
Open source software differs from other types of software because it is open to modification by the public, so that improvements can be made. There are many different types of OCR software available online, some of which is open source software. If you are interested in working with the code and making your own improvements, you can search for open source OCR software and find a type that best fits your needs. However, if you are just looking for a program that is easy to use and has the features that you need, you can download a free trial of CVISION’s Maestro Recognition Server, a server-based OCR solution. Question:
My company has a huge number of PDF files to compress, and is looking into a PDF compression server. Will your software enable us to set up a PDF compression server?
Answer:
Yes. PdfCompressor can be run on a server, offering all of the benefits of server-based PDF compression. Having a PDF compression server allows you to fully automate the process of PDF compression using watched folders, which means that the PDF compression software on the server watches specific folders on the server or on other machines networked to it. If a document is scanned into one of these folders, or if a PDF file is placed into one of them, it will be automatically compressed by your PDF compression server. PdfCompressor can also automatically use OCR to make your compressed PDF files text-searchable, or to turn them into editable text documents. A free trial version can be downloaded by visiting CVISION’s downloads page, linked below.
