Scanner OCR PDF

July 23rd, 2009 by Marsha

Question:
Can I get my scanner to OCR my files for me? Is there any way for it to output PDF instead of TIFF?

Answer:
The problem with files when they come out of a scanner is that they are not yet ready to work with. You’ve taken a paper document, and converted it into a digital image, but this is not yet useful, since you can’t really do anything with it. Most scanners output TIFF files. If you want your files to be in PDF format instead, you can use software to convert to PDF. Also, while your scanner itself does not OCR the file, you can use computer software to OCR once you have the file in digital form. With the right OCR solution, this is very easy. All you have to do is place the document on the scanner, and the rest of the work is done for you. You end up with a fully text-searchable file, which can even be automatically sorted according to your needs. CVISION’s Maestro Recognition Server can do this for you, making your life a lot easier. Maestro’s OCR is powerful, fast and accurate, so the scanning process is more convenient than ever.
