OCR ICR Forms Processing

January 29th, 2010 by Marsha

Question:
Is it helpful for a forms processing solution to have both OCR and ICR?

Answer:
It is definitely an advantage to have both capabilities. OCR allows you to process printed text, while ICR allows you to process handwritten text. Since some forms may include both printed and handwritten components, combining OCR and ICR in a single forms processing solution equips you with a very useful tool. CVISION’s Trapeze is a forms processing toolkit that contains both capabilities.

Text OCR

January 22nd, 2010 by Marsha

Question:
What types of text can be OCRed?

Answer:
OCR only works for printed text. That means that if you have handwritten text, the software will not be able to recognize it. Printed text is easier to recognize accurately because computer fonts have less variation than handwriting, and so OCR is extremely accurate for printed text. For handwritten text, ICR, or Intelligent Character Recognition, is an option, but that uses a different technology. If you need an advanced OCR program, then CVISION Technologies has the solution for you with Maestro Recognition Server.
